Xiaomi has presented the Mi 8 Pro with a fingerprint sensor directly in the display. The technology was already used in the Explorer Edition of the Mi 8 and should be more common in the future with smartphones from other manufacturers as an alternative to the classic fingerprint sensor on the back.
Fingerprint sensor directly in the display
The Mi 8 Pro has a pressure-sensitive fingerprint sensor, which is installed directly under the display. The user no longer has to put a finger on the back to unlock the device, but can easily do this with his thumb on the windshield.
For the alternative unlock via “3D Face Unlock” sets Xiaomi on the Mi 8 Pro on an infrared method. This technology is made possible by the built-in front camera, which can detect and recognize the contours of a face with an infrared beam.

In addition, the slimmed-down version of the smartphone has two main cameras with 12 and 5 megapixels and an LCD screen, which dissolves with 2,280 × 1,080 pixels at 6.26 inches.
MIUI 10 as operating system
As the operating system, both new smartphones rely on the Android offshoot MIUI 10. The developed and modified by Xiaomi MIUI 10 has recently left the beta status and the final version will be rolled out for some of the manufacturer’s smartphones.
The Chinese manufacturer has introduced innovations and improvements in the latest version of the operating system and the display of advertising . With first ads in its own music player and in the settings, the smartphone manufacturer wants to expand the business model and has already announced that advertising in the operating system is scheduled as an integral part of Xiaomi smartphones.
