After numerous leaks on the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 in recent weeks, the fitness bracelet was officially unveiled today. The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is a remake of Mi Band 2 , which now features a larger display, improved usability, stronger water protection and a new design. In the following article we present to you the new Xiaomi Mi Band 3 in detail . A test report will replace this announcement in the next few weeks.
The Mi Band 3 differs above all in one point from the fitness trackers in this country: over 100 € for the Topseller Fitbit, while a Mi Band 3 is even better and will cost only 30 € including shipping (The retail price of the Mi Band 3 in China at 22 €). So we first thought that Xiaomi his smartwatches / smartband division completely by the investment Huami Amazfit can continue, but now comes the successor of the Mi band. You could have quietly left the Amazfit Bip as unofficial successor: the minimalistic smartwatch did a great job in our test and was able to inspire the community.
Display and operation
The structure of Mi Band 3 remains similar to its predecessor. The fitness bracelet consists of the bracelet and a tracker that can be removed from it. So you have the opportunity to use different colored bands. An innovation to the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 is there in terms of operation. So the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 can now be controlled by different swiping gestures. The display also received an upgrade. The OLED panel now measures 0.78 inches (Mi Band 2: 0.48 inches) and resolves to 128 x 80 pixels. It still remains with a monochrome display. Also a button below the display remains. The biggest change next to the display size therefore relates to the touch screen, About the screenshots from the Mi Fit App we get some very detailed information about Mi Band 3: The following gestures are added as an additional control option.
- You can go back over the button, in addition you can press it longer for certain actions
- Swipe up and down to switch between features. Pressing switches between the items / information of the feature
- Sport: Huami Amazfit is very focused on tracking sports, which will be the case with Mi Band 3 as well.
The Mi Band 3 is available in three colors: red, black and navy blue . With great likelihood, however, there will soon be hundreds of different colors and patterns on offer. Another upgrade concerns water resistance: According to the manufacturer, the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is waterproof to a depth of 50m.
As far as the functions are concerned, Xiaomi remains true to its old concept and delivers a comprehensive set of functions despite the low price . So the Mi Band 3 continues to have a heart rate monitor . Maybe this will work a bit more accurately than its predecessor, because according to Xiaomi the wristband’s grip on the wrist has improved compared to its predecessor, which is very important for reliable tracking. To check this, however, we have to wait until we have the device for a detailed test report.
Of course there is also a pedometer on other functions , which can also alert the wearer if necessary, when it is time for some exercise after a long time sitting. In addition, the bracelet will display the time as soon as you raise your wrist to the horizontal. Also a monitoring of the sleep phases and an intelligent alarm clock is of course available again. If you also own a Xiaomi smartphone, you can use Mi Band 3 to unlock your device without password or fingerprint scanning.
It is also exciting to see how the Mi Band 3 supports the display of notifications such as SMS or Whatsapp. In this function, Mi Band 2 had a lot of catching up to do, so we can well imagine that these features have now been improved on Mi Band 3. The predecessor was already able to provide information about incoming SMS or calls, but it was not possible to display messages because the display was too small. Maybe this will be possible on Mi Band 3 and maybe the smartphone will also understand popular apps outside of China, like Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp.
Bluetooth & battery life
In the meantime the Bluetooth certification for the Xiaomi Mi Band 3 has surfaced! The exact model name is XMSH05HM and Huami Amazfit is registered as a company. So instead of Bluetooth 4.0 now 4.2 is used. Will Mi Band 3 once again outperform the monumental battery life of its predecessor with the new Bluetooth standard? Xiaomi claims that his new Mi band can deliver up to 20 days of battery life. The battery life thus remains the same as that of its predecessor. This is pretty impressive, considering that the Mi Band 3 has a larger OLED display installed.
Price of the Mi Band 3
The price was and still is the biggest factor in the success of Mi Band 2 – and that’s exactly what we expect for Mi Band 3. And fortunately, the manufacturer stays true to its line here. The Xiaomi Mi Band 3 is sold in China for the equivalent of 23€ . In this respect, the import price should be around 30 €. Price placed the Mi Band 3 so below the Amazfit Bip , which costs just under 50€.
