Thuraya X5-Touch is the first Android satellite smartphone

It’s called Thuraya X5-Touch and it’s the first Android satellite smartphone, a device designed for users who frequently move in and out of the earth’s coverage, such as government and non-profit staff.

Launched by Thuraya Telecommunications Company at an event in Dubai, the smartphone has a 5.2-inch display with Full HD resolution, Dual-SIM support (it should be able to switch seamlessly between GSM and satellite service), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and NFC connectivity, an IP67 certified body and probably Android 8.0 Oreo (the manufacturer has not specified the OS version).

Other features of the Thuraya X5-Touch include a dedicated emergency call button, a front and rear camera, a battery that should provide a large battery life and a well-designed design. No information has been provided at this stage on the markets where it will be available and the official price.
