Xiaomi makes on the one hand mini speakers for ten and cheap smartphones for 150 euros. But also products like this laser projector, for the price of which you could buy 13 Redmi Note 4. Pretty steep. But does it give you the perfect home cinema experience?

It is quite possible that this is the most expensive article we have ever presented here. He’s in the top five at least. We probably wouldn’t have taken it in at all, but we received a gadget sent in this week with this beamer. Even if we don’t test it, we will just have a look at what Xiaomi delivers here. We’ll still be able to dream. Thank you for sending us your message.
Incidentally, the term laser projector refers only to the lamp technology in the beamer and replaces the usual light source with a laser module. This has a longer service life and significantly less heat dissipation.
The projector is also a so-called short-distance beamer, which means that it can be set up in the shortest distance to the screen. The idea is to place it on a TV board, for example, where it takes on the role of a television set. With a projection screen of up to 3.8 metres diagonal, a sufficiently large room is of course mandatory.
A technology called ALPD 3.0 (Advanced Laser Phosphor Display) by the Chinese developer Appotronics is also used here. The brightness of 5000 ANSI Lumen is sufficient for a sufficiently bright picture even in rooms without darkening.

Operating system MIUI TV
Like a TV box or a smart TV, the beamer has its own user interface. MIUI TV is based on Android 6.0 and is mostly available in Chinese. However, it is possible to convert them to English. It should also be possible to install the Playstore via detours. Thus, the problem of language can be circumvented to some extent, but unfortunately it remains an unpleasant fact that Xiaomi develops (still) most of its products for the Chinese market. In addition to a 1.8 GHz quad-core processor, the beamer has 2 GB RAM and 16 GB flash memory.
Sound and connectivity
The rear of the projector has a total of three HDMI connectors, two USB sockets, audio output, AV input, an S/PDIF connector and an Ethernet socket. And of course, there is also the connection for the mains cable, which is almost certainly equipped with a Chinese mains plug.
Four loudspeakers (2 full range speakers and 2 tweeters) provide the sound.

Where to buy?
I do not want to make a final judgment on this myself. With the price, the Mi short-distance beamer leaves even comparatively expensive purchases like the Notebook Pro behind. On the other hand, there is also a lot of equipment on offer here, which is not cheaper.

At least it’s exciting to see what Xiaomi is working on, and what could also be interesting for the German market if they continue to expand into Europe in the next few years. What do you think of the beamer? Have you ever thought about a home cinema, or have you even set one up? Tell us about it in the comments.
