HomTom’s first smartphone for in 2018 is called HomTom S12 that is as usual in terms of appearance and technically lower entry-level. But it could become the cheapest smartphone in 2018. Although I think the cheapest phone with 18:9 display may be another Chinese brand: Cubot R11.
The new HomTom smartphone looks good from a visual point of view. The frame is always in contrast to the back. The black version is available with a red or blue frame. In addition, the camera on the back is also marked in colour. The front, on the other hand, is usually in black, which refers to the upper and lower edges. The 2.5D glass on the HomTom S12 hardly has any lateral edges. If I’m not mistaken, Homtom is even the first manufacturer with a 5 inch display in 18:9 format. Previously, this format had only been available in sizes around 5.5 inches.
Technically speaking, the Homtom S12 is hardly usable. If then as a second mobile phone to make a phone call. The simplest apps will certainly manage without any jerks. We don’t even need to talk about real gaming with the S12. Inside, there is still an old MediaTek MT6580 processor and 1GB of memory. The internal memory is 8GB, but can be extended with a memory card up to 64GB. On the back is placed an 8MP +2MP dual camera, the front camera with a 5 MP. The battery with a capacity of 2750 mAh will do the battery life good. LTE is missing and Android 6.0 is also used. Updates? None at all. Ok, let’s take a look at its hardware parameters:
Homtom S12: Technical data
|Display||5 inches (960 x 480 pixels)|
|Random Access Memory (RAM)||1 GB|
|Internal memory (ROM)||8 GB|
|Camera||8 + 2 megapixels (dual camera)|
|Battery pack||2750 mAh|
|Operating system||Android 6.0 (Marshmallow)|
The only really interesting thing about the HomTom S12 would be the price. Just 42 euros it currently costs on Aliexpress or GearBest in the offer. The regular price is 48 euros. Thus, the HomTom S12 could at least become the cheapest smartphone in 2018. What do you think about the S12?
