Ulefone Power 3 Unboxing

On the first day of 2018, I plan to do a detailed review of the Ulefone Power 3 that is a Chinese cell phone with large battery capacity in my hands. Before that, I tested OnePlus 5T, another top-of-the-line 18: 9 smartphone. The Ulefone Power 3 is a smartphone whose main focus is on the huge 6,080 mAh battery and a 6 inch display with 18: 9 aspect ratio. Of course, its processor (MTK6763) is also very good.

I remember in early 2017, Ulefone released the Power 2. So, The Power 3 can be seen as an upgraded version of it. Although both devices are only a few months apart, has changed a lot, especially in terms of the display and the camera equipment. Especially after the success of the Ulefone Power 2, the Power 3 could become a very interesting best-selling mobile phone.

Due to the aspect ratio of 18: 9, the Ulefone Power 3 is a particularly slim smartphone in a noble metal case. The huge 6080 mAh battery makes the smartphone but also much thicker (9.85 mm) and heavier (210g) than many other 18:9 device. In general, one battery charge should be sufficient for a multi-day use. In order for the battery to recharge fast, Ulefone is promoting the Power 3 with a “Light-Speed Fast-Charge 4.0” quick charge function, which is designed to fully charge the battery after only 120 minutes.

Display

The display of the Ulefone Power 3 is 6 inches with 2160 x 1080 pixels, following the trend of the recently released China smartphones. The dot density is 401 PPI which means that individual pixels are barely visible to the naked eye. The aspect ratio of 18:9, will significantly affect the handling and general use of the smartphone. The display is of the “in-cell” type, and thanks to the combination of digitizer and LCD display, enables a more compact panel with lower weight and improved display. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, a particularly durable branded display glass.

Hardware

As one of the first smartphones, the Ulefone Power 3 is equipped with a MediaTek Helio P23 System-on-Chip (MTK6763). This processor works with a total of 8 Cortex-A53 processor cores (octa-core) clocking at up to 2.5 GHz. By “Heterogeneous Multi-Processing” manage the efficient power distribution to each cluster. The system unit of the system-on-chip is the ARM Mali-G71 MP2 GPU, which should get along well with mobile games. The memory of the Power 3 is impressive. The manufacturer has opted for a 6GB LDPPR4X memory and a 64GB eMMC5.1 flash memory. A memory extensionby MicroSD memory card is possible. But you have to do without the dual SIM function of the smartphone!

System interface

Personally, I feel that the interface is refreshing and there is no pre-installed third-party advertising APP.

Less than 80,000 points, it shows that the ulefone power 3 is a Mid-level smartphone.

Camera

A major innovation compared to the predecessor model is the camera equipment. The smartphone is equipped with a 16 + 5 megapixel (21MP interpolated) main camera and an 8 + 5 megapixel (13MP interpolated) front camera . The main sensor of the main camera comes from Samsung and is called Samsung S5K3P3. The aperture of the main camera is f / 2.0, that of the front camera f / 2.2. Ulefone expects the use of two image sensors a “DSLR-like” bokeh effect. How well the effect comes across, will have to show in the test. For improved low-light shooting, the main camera also comes with a dual-tone LED flashfitted. Viewable selfies should be achieved in low light conditions by a “soft light”.

Battery and others

Android 8.1 is also widely advertised as the operating system of the Power 3. However, I am very responsible to tell you that the Power 3 runs Android 7.1 now. Android 8.1 Oreo will then be submitted “very soon” via OTA update. Smart unlock features are available, and include Face ID face recognition and a fingerprint scanner on the back of the case. With the AW8763 hi-fi chip, the smartphone also wants to score in terms of sound quality. Other features include the support of dual-band WiFi, GPS and GLONASS, as well as the typical sensors(Gyroscope, proximity sensor, e-compass, brightness sensor, accelerometer), Bluetooth 4.1 and a notification LED. The 2G, 3G and 4G frequencies and bands commonly used in this country are all supported.

Summary

I really like this cost-effective mobile phone. A battery-powered smartphone with 18: 9 display, this is very tempting. The storage equipment leaves nothing to be desired. With the use of the Helio P23, the smartphone is equipped with a new mid-range processor, which should provide enough power in everyday life. Somewhat critical is the view of the camera selection. The use of multiple image sensors does not coincide with a good recording quality. This has already been shown on the basis of other China smartphones with dual camera that often a single sensor would have been the better choice. It remains interesting how well Ulefone has matched the cameras of the Power 3 to the Imagiq 2.0 ISP of the Helio P23.
