2017 is the year of rimless smartphones – At least that’s what it looks like when you look at the whole bunch of Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 clones from the smaller Chinese manufacturers. The latest model following the new trend is the Oukitel Mix 2. As usual, the smartphone has hardly any edges around the display. Inside we can expect a Mediatek Helio P25 mid-range processor, 6 GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. On the back is a dual camera setup consisting of a 21.0MP main camera and a second 2.0MP camera used. The battery measures good 4000mAh and supports Quick Charge.
The Oukitel Mix 2 clearly follows the Xiaomi Mi Mix models in its design. It stands out immediately that the display has almost no edges left and right and above and below the display also only very little edge to the frame is present. How well this will be implemented in reality, however, is yet to be seen. Admittedly, advertising photos do not always correspond to reality. Apart from the borderless display, the Oukitel Mix 2 is more of a mobile phone for people who like it big. With gigantic 6 inches, the smartphone offers plenty of space for screen content, but will also take a corresponding size. With its dimensions of 158 x 75 x 8.8 mm, the phone is still quite compact in view of the large display and the weight of 207g is still within the tolerable. The Oukitel Mix 2 will be available in black, blue and silver. A first advertising image shows the reflective glass back:
The back of the smartphone can not be easily removed and the access to the battery is denied. Two Simcards or a Sim and a MicroSD find place in a Simslot on the left side. On the right are the power button and the volume control. The Oukitel Mix 2 does not have a physical homebutton or soft-touch buttons. It is served instead with on-screen buttons. A fingerprint sensor is located on the back. In addition, a modern USB-Type C button is used and a headphone connection is available. The Oukitel Mix 2 is very reminiscent of the Vernee Mix 2 in every way.
The display is in gigantic 6 inches in 18: 9 format ideal for those who prefer a large mobile phone for videos and games. The resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels corresponds to Full HD and ensures a good sharpness, in which individual pixels with average eyes are no longer visible. It’s a typical IPS display that will hopefully deliver good contrasts and vivid colors. The touchscreen can register up to 10 points of contact at a time and should be well suited for high-speed typing. About scratch-resistant glass, there are no further information from the manufacturer.
The processor is a Helio P25 Octa-core processor to be installed. This mid-range CPU provides good speed when using multimedia and the basic functions. Also 3D gaming is possible with a few small restrictions. For a smartphone under 200 €, the chip is completely appropriate. We have already tested some smartphones with the P25 and can – given a good software optimization – give the chip a decent performance and energy efficiency. The memory should be 6 / 64GB and thus also convincing. With a 6GB of memory, the Oukitel Mix 2 will have good multitasking capability, and the 64GB of memory will provide enough capacity for most users.
Like most smartphones of the smaller, Chinese manufacturers, the Oukitel Mix 2 also offers a dual camera. However, we are already leaning so far out of the window and say that all dual-camera functions are completely useless and the second sensor is probably just a dummy. This has always been the case and we doubt that the Oukitel Mix 2 will be an exception here. Apart from that, the 21 megapixel sensor on the back can convince with standard pictures. Oukitel has done a good job here in the past and we are optimistic that the mix can also convince.
The front camera has a total of 13 megapixels, but you should not be impressed by the high number. Whether a cell phone camera is good or not, is usually a matter of software optimization and this also applies to the selfie cam of Oukitel Mix 2.
The Oukitel Mix 2 can operate two Nano Simcards at the same time. Alternatively, you can use one of the two Simslots for memory expansion via MicroSD. All 2G, 3G and 4G ( LTE ) frequencies required in Germany are supported. The Wifi module can connect to 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks and even Bluetooth 4.2 is supported. As far as the installed sensors are concerned, the Oukitel Mix 2 comes with a gyroscope and an e-compass in addition to the standard sensors. A headphone jack and a USB-Type-C connector are also included.
