Maze Alpha X Short Review

MAZE Alpha X 4G Phablet Android 7.0 6.0 inch MTK6757 Octa 2.5GHz 6GB RAM 64GB ROM Full Screen Front Touch Sensor

The Maze Alpha X is a second-generation, almost border-less smartphone. The smartphone will be released in November 2017, just 4 months after the release of the Maze Alpha. All information about the smartphone, the manufacturer has now published.

The Maze Alpha X is the successor of the published in August “Maze Alpha“. This is not just an update of the first Alpha smartphone, rather, the manufacturer relies on a new design and even on a high-resolution display in the format 18: 9. Especially after the success of the Maze Alpha, the X could be a very interesting successor, which may even lead the market of cheap-almost-border-less smartphones.

Maze Alpha X Test

18:9 Display

The display of the Maze Alpha X resolves at a screen diagonal of 6 inches with 2160 x 1080 pixels , which corresponds to a dot density of 401 PPI. The aspect ratio is thus 18: 9 , which will have a significant impact on handling and overall usage. The so-called in-cell display panel comes from LG and allows the combination of digitizer and LCD display a more compact panel with lighter weight and improved appearance. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5 . The screen-to-body ratio, ie the ratio of the display to the housing, is given by Maze with 89.6%at. That these values are often wrong, has already been demonstrated by numerous other bezel-less smartphones. Taking the case dimensions of 159.8 x 82.5 x 8.1 mm specified by Maze at its word, the screen-to-body ratio would be 70.47 percent . Compared to this, a Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 achieves a screen-to-body ratio of 80.79 percent.

Processor and Memory

The smartphone will appear in two versions. The system-on-chip of the Maze Alpha X is the MediaTek MTK6757 , better known as the Helio P25. The originally expected MediaTek Helio P30 will not be used! That the manufacturer of Qualcomm would be supplied, was just as unlikely. The memory of the Maze Alpha X amounts to a 6GB LPDDR4X memory in combination with an optional 64GB or 128GB flash memory . A memory expansion via MicroSD memory card is possible.

Sony Camera

Surprisingly, both variants of the Maze Alpha X also appear with a different sensor configuration. On a dual main camera is omitted. Instead, the 64GB model with a 13 megapixel Sony IMX258 main camera with F2.0 aperture appears , whereas the 128GB model is based on a 16 megapixel OmniVision OV16880 image sensor, also with F2.0 aperture. The front camera is the same for both models. This is an 8 megapixel camera with Sony IMX219 image sensor and F2.0 aperture. As a further feature Maze indicates a 2x optical zoom.

Battery and Others

With an aspect ratio of 18: 9, the Maze Alpha X becomes a sleek tri-bezel-less smartphone . The bezel should have shrunk from 1.8 mm to 1.69 mm compared to the first Maze Alpha. If that’s true, will appear in the near future test! The lower housing part shrinks according to the manufacturer of 20.10 mm to only 13.58 mm. The back of the smartphone is made of shock and scratch resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 4. At least that’s what the manufacturer states in the specifications for the Maze Alpa X. As a color accent, there will be the smartphone with a blue, silver or black shimmering back. The capacity of the battery is 3900 mAh. The smartphone is charged via USB-C. Other features include a fingerprint scanner, the typical smartphone sensors, GPS, a comprehensive 2G, 3G and 4G mobile phone support, and a multi-color notification LED.

Summary

The technical data for the Maze Alpha X read quite well. A high-resolution 18: 9 display sounds appealing. The storage equipment leaves nothing to be desired. The use of the Helio P25 processor was to be expected. That Maze would actually opt for the new Helio P30 or even uses a Qualcomm processor, was quite unlikely. It will be interesting to see how the two models will differ in terms of the recording quality of the main camera. As soon as the test specimen is reached, the detailed test report of the Maze Alpa X follows!
9.2
Good!
