Every dedicated filmmaker and video enthusiast will know the problem that you watch great productions of films and enviously think about the crazy equipment with which such films are made and how you would like to use it. Unfortunately, however, the average film enthusiast unfortunately lacks both space and money to buy a camera crane, for example.
However, for some shots, such equipment is essential and since it is difficult to replicate or replace with other tools, other solutions are needed. This is exactly the kind of film that now comes directly from the American state, which also accommodates the film industry itself. The Californian start-up Wiral is currently presenting its variant of a cable cam on Kickstarter and wants to convince with ease and its low price.
A Cable Cam is a camera that can be hung in a stretched rope and can move along this rope, resulting in both fluid camera movements and exciting perspectives. The most well-known use is probably the one for football games. While these are mostly installations that have to hold kilogram heavy cameras, today we can rely on smartphones and GoPros. Keeping it supple in the air is much easier and should be possible from Wiral Lite up to the weight of a reflex camera, i. e. about one and a half kilos.
The construction and use of the system is very simple. First of all, the corresponding 50-metre-long line is stretched with tension straps and the Wiral Lite is then hung in place. As soon as the camera has been started, the entire cable cam can be moved and positioned along the rope using a remote control. The Wiral Lite can be used in Time Lapse mode at 0.1 km/h or for action shots at up to 45 km/h. The battery lasts for about three hours and can then be recharged via the USB port.

If you want to jump on the bandwagon and buy yourself a Wiral Lite, you will pay $180 to $300, depending on the accessories. The accessories include the cable, extra batteries and an additional socket to attach a smartphone, for example. If you want to get your own copy, you can do so on the kick-start page of Wiral Lite.
