The Android Smartphone Le Pro 3 from the manufacturer LeEco offers a great performance. Technically comparable competing devices like the LG G6 or the HTC U Ultra leave the bargain-Bolide behind benchmarks.
LeEco Le Pro 3 is supposed to compete with the expensive premium smartphones of the established brands is already evident on the outside of the device. The China Phone comes in a 175 gram heavy and 7.5 millimeter thick unibody aluminum case with double ground edge on the sides. The display unit is cleanly inserted into the metal jacket, there are no gaps on the device. Nevertheless, scattered dust particles stick to the edge of the screen glass. The back of the metal housing is slightly arched on all four edge areas and displays a discreet brushing effect on the surface, the camera unit minimizes slightly from the surrounding surface. The smartphone on the back wobbles but not on flat surfaces, because the camera unit is quite wide.
The rounded fingerprint sensor, on the other hand, is a little deeper and can be touched with the finger without any hitches. This is a capacitive scanner, not a Qualcomm sense-ID sensor already installed by LeEco in other devices. It can be used to unlock the smartphone or to launch apps, but it can also be used as a camera trigger if the settings are appropriate. When photographing, it does not matter with which finger one touches the scanner surface.
The side power and volume buttons have a crisp pressure point, while the SIM card slot sits firmly on the other side of the drawer. On the front of the Le Pro 3, there is no mechanical button, but only three capacitive sensor buttons with Android-typical occupancy, which illuminate during the push or push, below the screen. The USB-C connector on the bottom edge of the device, which also serves as an audio output, is framed by two rows of holes. Whether a microphone and an infrared transmitter are used to use the smartphone as a remote control for compatible TVs.
The 5.5-inch IPS display offers the full-HD resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels and a sharpness of 401 pixels per inch. The black frame around the display area will not be visible until the screen is switched on. Then it shows itself: Narrow is not straight, for a new high-end smartphone even outrageously wide. On the other hand, what looks really good is the fact that the display appears to be placed directly under the scratch-resistant screen glass (Corning Gorilla Glass 3), from oblique viewing angles, it darkens only minimally. The color temperature of the screen can be adapted to warmer, colder, stronger or paler sounds by means of four preset profiles.
As an operating system is installed on the Le Pro 3 the Android-ROM EUI 5.8 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow developed by the device manufacturer. With an update to a current Android version users of this smartphone should not necessarily count, the menu point “Updates” is not even in the system settings. After all, Marshmallow app permissions can be withdrawn individually. As is usual with import smartphones from China, Google’s Android-typical services are not pre-installed on the LeEco Le Pro 3. However, the CECT shop, from which we purchased our test device, had access to the Google Play Store so that we could download and install Gmail, Maps and other Google apps ourselves on the smartphone.
