SJCAM lays on the action cam market and “leakt” a new high-end action cam called “SJCAM SJ8”. What is rumored to happen and when a publication is to be expected, you will learn in this post!
Preview the SJCAM SJ8
After the current SJCAM top model, the SJCAM SJ7 Star is now on the market for almost one year, the rumors are growing that SJCAM will release a SJ8 later this year. The SJCAM SJ8 will be a high-end action cam with decent hardware, which will include videos in 4K at 60 frames per second.
Image sensor and image processor
According to the first Leaks, the image sensor is a 1/2.3 inch and in 12.35 megapixel resolution Sony IMX377 image sensor. The same is among other things in the current Yi 4K+ installed and performs there an excellent work. The image processor is called Ambarella H22 and is a system-on-chip announced at the beginning of the year, which is to be established between an Ambarella H2 and the Ambarella A12 SoCs. This combination allows the SJCAM SJ8 video natively in 4K at 60 frames per second take. The recording format is MP4. For video coding, there is as yet no data, but the Ambarella H22 is able to encode video material also in H.265. Images can also be stored in raw data format RAW.
Display, ice and GPS
Touchscreens are no longer indispensable in current action cams and facilitate the operation immensely. The SJCAM SJ8 will also be equipped with a touch screen on the back, the diagonal of which will be 2.33 inches. In addition, there will be a front-of-the-line LCD display with a diagonal of 0.96 inches, which will probably serve the display of the camera status. Also likely is electronic image stabilization, which will be available up to a resolution of 4K at 30 frames per second. The possibility of position determination, for example to record distances and speeds, will only be provided by an external GPS module.
Voice, battery and other
In addition to the touchscreen operation, it will also be possible to control the SJCAM SJ8 via voice commands. Probably, the function will be similar to a Yi 4K+ or GoPro Hero5 implemented. If you prefer to use the Action Cam from afar, you can access the WiFi function of the camera. Via an app, it will be possible, in addition to a live image output, to make camera settings directly via the connected smartphone or tablet and even record wireless transmissions. There are currently no data available for battery capacity. Presumably the capacity will be between 1000 and 1400 mAh. Again, it is known that the Action Cam with the current USB-C standard And external modules, such as an external microphone, can be connected.
Although the SJ8 promises some, it brings no new features compared to other high-end action cams. Compared to the Yi 4K+, which has been mixing the market since the beginning of the year, the SJ8 is lagging behind in terms of equipment. Instead of using the latest Ambarella H2 processor, SJCAM prefers the weaker Ambarella H22. To what extent the SJCAM SJ8 can finally get through and at what price the Action Cam will appear, we will probably still learn in September. At least the online dealer GearBest has already included the SJ8 in its assortment.
