Why is Android 8 called Oreo? Have you paid for the cookie brand?

Android Oreo 8.0

They have had to spend a few years to re-see a trade name in an Android version. Since the launch of Android 4.4 KitKat we have been speculating about the next names of Android versions with brands like Nutella , M & Ms , etc.

Well, Android has only used a trade name, to date, twice and the new Android 8.0 is named Oreo, a well-known brand but … why? First of all, here you can see all the news of Android Oreo.

Android 8.0: Android Oreo

Android 8.0 Oreo, the new version

For Android to be called Oreo needs the authorization of the brand and for that you have to sign an agreement in which, surprisingly, there is no money involved.

The agreement between Google and Oreo benefits both companies equally and creates a much higher hype than if Android bears a normal name. Oreo, undoubtedly, could seem the most benefited in this case to take its name in an Android version that use millions of people but the fact is that it is surely Google who takes the best part.

Android Oreo will make people talk Android

Google wants Android to be the operating system par excellence and in fact already is, for every device with iOS on the market there are usually about 9 with Android and that assumes that about 90% of devices that are sold in the world carry Android.

The reason is simple, Android sells devices of all prices and Apple only high end but that is not what concerns us now. That Android bear Oreo in name will make it speak much more of Android Oreo than Android 8.0 and this way the name of Android will sound with more force. Oreo will also promote Android with a custom cookies with the Android logo but we do not know if they will arrive in Spain like the custom KitKat chocolates that we never saw.

Why on Android O and not on Android N?

This I will say is homegrown, my opinion. Android 4.4 KitKat has been one of the best versions of Android, one of those versions that really has marked a before and after and that has made Android a more interesting option.

It is possible that after the appearance change in Lollipop, Marshmallow performance tuning and security tests in Nougat have made Android 8.0, the next version of Android, one of those key versions in the evolution of Android. I hope I’m not mistaken and that it really is one of those versions that will stay forever in our minds. If you want to know when it will arrive on your Android Android phone, here you have a list of the first ones to update.
