Unboxing and Design

Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 arrives in a very large cardboard box, the package exceeds 20 kg, so moving it will be a feat. The box dominates the manufacturer’s black and orange corporate color, Be Quiet! Has taken advantage of the different faces of the box to detail the specifications of the chassis in the best possible way.

Once we open the box we find the chassis very well protected by foam pieces and a plastic bag. The bundle includes:

  • Chassis  Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900
  • Two supports for a liquid cooling tank
  • Screw set, anti-vibration rubber and Velcro flanges
  • RGB Strips LEDs

Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 is a fairly large PC chassis that reaches dimensions of 585 x 243 x 577 mm, this translates into a volume of 82 liters so the internal space will be very generous and we will not have problems when installing No component.

The box is constructed of the highest quality steel, which makes its weight rise to reach 14.39 kg, we are very clear that Be Quiet! It has only used materials of the highest quality.

The first thing we look at is the front, this is built with brushed aluminum and ABS plastic to look a very attractive but not too aggressive static, it seeks to adapt to the tastes of all users by different.

This front has a door that hides the two 5.25-inch bays and the front fans.

It’s getting harder to find a chassis where 5.25-inch bays have not been removed, Be Quiet! He wanted to detach himself from the trend and placed not one but two.

On the front also we find a button to change the color of the lighting system and a sliding controller for the speed of the fans.

Detail of the panel that cushions the possible noise that can throw the internal components of your computer.

The panel consists of two USB 3.0 ports, the power and reset buttons and the 3.5 mm connectors for audio and micro. The fans are protected by an anti-dust filter so that the interior of the equipment will remain more Clean and optimum air flow.

We also have to highlight that it incorporates a wireless charger for our smartphone. In our case we have not tried it, since the Huawei P10 does not allow this load so interesting. An extra point to purchase this box.

One of the great attractions of the Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 is the large window tempered glass that has been placed on its main side, the glass is tinted to improve the aesthetics and its size is very large.

So that will allow us to see perfectly the entire interior of the equipment, perfect so that we do not miss the incredible aesthetics that have today all components thanks to RGB LED lighting systems.

While on the opposite side we have a cover that allows us to install up to two fans . Unsurprisingly, it incorporates an anti-noise system to further enhance the experience of silence in our team.

Now we look at the rear of the chassis, in this area we find the space to place a 120 mm or 140 mm fan that will take out the hot air generated by the hardware during its operation. We also find 8 expansion slots and the area to install the power supply at the bottom.

Already in the bottom we see 4 plastic legs finished in rubber to avoid the vibrations. Where are the filters? In the front, in the lower zone, we can remove it of the following form:

And now we move on to the next section!

Bottom and assembly

Seen the outside touches the interior of the Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900. The first thing we see is the zone for the installation of the motherboard, this chassis supports E-ATX, XL-ATX, ATX, micro-ATX and mini-ITX form factor models to try to adapt to the maximum needs and The possibilities of all users.

One of the things that have fallen in love with this box is the possibility of inverting the structure of the motherboard, to give a different touch to the computer. It also allows us to adjust the height of the plate to increase or decrease the difference in distance between the ceiling for large radiators. That last!

Its large size does not have compatibility problems with CPU heatsinks with a height of up to 190 mm and graphics cards up to 47.2 cm, it is clear that we can install any model available in the market without having to worry. In fact, if we do not remove the bays for hard disks the maximum length of the supported graphics cards will be 32.3 cm, which is still more than enough for very high-end models.

The bays are on the front of the chassis, we have space to install two 5.25-inch drives and a large number of hard drives in the form of 7 3.5-inch drives or 14 2.5-inch drives.

Of course storage will not be a problem for users of the Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900.

Also in the front area we see two 140 mm SilentWings 3 fans that come standard and spin at a speed of 1000 RPM. These can be replaced by three 120 mm fans or a 420 mm or 360 mm radiator for the installation of a liquid cooling system.

We continue to see the possibilities of ventilation with a third SilentWings 3 fan 140 mm installed in the rear area and serves to draw hot air from the equipment. In the upper area we can install four fans of 120 mm, three of 140 mm, one of 180 mm or radiators of 420/360 mm. The quality of the fans are outstanding, although we believe that the same should have more fans to direct the hot air.

We now look at the installation area of the power supply and it is quite peculiar. In this chassis we can move the fountain slightly forward in a way that does not remain attached to the chassis, it is an aesthetic element that demonstrates the mime that has put the manufacturer in the product. To allow the displacement of the source has been installed a cable that serves to bridge it to the outside, this is the reason that in the outer rear part of the chassis we have the power button of the source.

Finally we leave you a sample of a possible assembly in this PC with air dissipation.

Final words and conclusion about Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900

The box Be Quiet! Dark Base Pro 900 is positioned among the best PC boxes on the market. An elegant design, using premium materials: tempered glass + aluminum and a great capacity to install high-end components.

Among its strongest points we find the possibilities that allow us to adapt the box to our needs. For example, putting the motherboard vertically, installing a 420 mm radiator, disabling some hard drive bays to install a graphics card or incorporating LED strips (included) to see the inside of our PC more easily.

In our tests we have assembled an AMD Ryzen computer with a very modest graphics card. But the result has been excellent … yes, the loudness is really low with the fans in low mode. For us a very favorable point for users looking to minimize noise to the maximum.

The only glue we see is that the box would have gained a lot more, if they had protected with a metal casing to the power supply, that way we can easily hide all the wiring.

Its price in store ranges from 220 to 250 euros. There is currently a lower version for 50 euros less, but does not include the wireless charger, LED strips and tempered glass. Is it worth the money? From our point of view YES.
