Delivery, processing and design
The Gimbal from FeiyuTech comes in a white box which is very stable. Through the golden logo the whole looks pretty noble.
There is not much to say about the delivery. Next to the gimbal are two foam pads and a micro-USB charging cable. Here one can already say that the enclosed English-language instructions is pretty well translated and also with pictures not stingy.
The design of the Gimbal can not convince me personally. So the color choice and the shape of the handle are selected well and modern, but the handle is very clumsy. This makes the whole look less elegant. The advantage of the proportions is that the gimbal can easily be placed on horizontal surfaces .
The device is processed very well for the price: no unevenness in the plastic of the handle and all buttons or the joystick feel good quality and have a good pressure point. Only in the metal of the gimbal will very little small scratch marks develop, if one is in the adjustment of the gimbal careless.
After we had problems with the apps lately with articles like the Xiaomi Dashcam, this time there was also some mistrust in the installation of the app. Here, however, a quick all-clear was given. The app Feiyu ON , which is available for iOS 8.0+ or Android 4.4+, is available in English. In addition, there are virtually no presets to be made here: You only select your model and is in the shooting mode, in which all the features of the gimbals can be used.
In order to connect the smartphone to the Vimble C, you have to turn on the gimbal, of course. Please note, that the Smartphone/Action Cam is already clamped in the Gimbal, as the engine can be damaged! As soon as the gimbal is switched on, the whole thing looks like in the app:
A nice extra is the panorama function available in the app. With the Gimbal the pictures are then quickly and easily recorded.
Movies using the gimbals
The FeiyuTech Gimbal is operated by three tools: the shutter / power button (front), the joystick (front) and a rear wheel (toggle switch). Here we come to the first problem in the service: Through the clunky handle it is difficult to hold the gimbal securely in the hand and to reach all buttons well. When the thumb is released, for example, to operate the joystick, the handle feels very unsafe. A pity, because one-handed usage is a big factor for the use of a gimbal.
The individual operating functions can be read in the manual. Helpful are the two small LEDs, which, unfortunately somewhat difficult to see, are attached above the handle.
The main task of a gimbal is to “balance” movements of the hand, so that the smartphone and thus the image despite a lot of movement does not shake. With the Vimble C the whole thing runs over 3-axis. Very promising, since 3-axles offer a higher stabilizing potential in all situations than the 2-axis models. At the beginning you have to move your Smartphone with the existing device with the belt so that the center of gravity is really centered. This is the only way to ensure that the motors work precisely.
As you can see in the video, the Gimbal stabilizes the recordings pretty well. Was filmed here by the way with an iPhone 6.
The FeiyuTech Vimble C makes a good overall impression. With a simple setup and the possibility to use both smartphones and action cams, it is fun to take pictures with the gimbal. The stabilization works well and leads to the desired result – quiet videos. The Vimble C is not super cheap, but costs a good bit less than its competitors. Price is currently under the Zhiyun Smooth-Q undercut. Otherwise, the only drawback at the Gimbal is that the handle is very bulky.
