Pioneer Rayz and Rayz Plus: Lightning headphones with charging capability and Smart Noise Canceling available from July

Pioneer’s new in-ear headphones rely solely on Apple’s Lightning connector and offer a lot of “smarter” features.

The “Rayz Plus” version even supports the simultaneous charging of the iPhones or iPads without additional adapters.

Rayz and Rayz Plus are to be based on the Avnera LightX platform, which is to guarantee the lowest possible power consumption of the headphones via dedicated usage modes for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The LightX platform will also provide various intelligent functions.

Smart Functions
Despite their small size, six microphones are required, which allow several functions. For example, the Smart Noise Cancellation, which is to be integrated as standard in both models: According to the manufacturer, this patented technology scans the ear of each listener and optimizes the noise reduction depending on the anatomy and environment. While other headphones with noise reduction are focused primarily on frequent flyers and their typical surroundings, Rayz wants to cover the entire noise spectrum of every day life – from work, to office, leisure, school or university. A so-called “HearThru” mode, wants to pass a small amount of external noise to the ear so that the wearer can still be reached for his environment.

A further application for the integrated microphones is the Rayz and Rayz Plus in the sensorless “On Ear Detection”: The headphones should automatically detect whether they are in the auricle or not. The played content is thus automatically paused when the headphones are taken out of the ear and activated again when the listening experience is continued. At the same time the Rayz should be switched to an energy saving mode, as soon as the headphones are taken out of the ears.

Last but not least, the “Rayz by Pioneer” App, available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch, will provide a very special user experience: not only the settings of the headphone (such as the audio equalizer and the Programming of the smart key), but also provide new functions via software updates.

“We’ve worked closely with Pioneer to provide users with smart features without compromising battery life, product size, or performance,” said Manpreet Khaira, CEO of Avnera Corporation. “This was made possible by groundbreaking innovations in the audio, voice and sensor circuits of Avnera’s new LightX platform, which is the foundation of Apple’s second-generation Lightning Audio Module technology.”
